I was thrilled to be invited onto the LegendFiction livestream on May 21 to talk about the craft of writing, as well as the thriller I’m currently seeking representation for, Up from the Concrete. You can watch the edited version of the interview below, or on the LegendFiction YouTube channel. A huge thank you to Dominic for having me on the livestream!
Not gonna lie, this was one of the scariest and most exhilarating things I’ve ever done – and I kayak with alligators in the bayous on a regular basis. I have also tried ziplining. But there’s no rush quite like finding someone who doesn’t look at me funny when I go on a random tangent about getting in touch with the “impulse,” or rave about a movie hitting the 15 Blake Snyder story beats perfectly.
We had an excellent discussion on story structure, micro-tension, my personal writing habits, and my process for drafting and editing Up from the Concrete. I also managed to give a verbal pitch of my novel that I don’t hate, which is probably the biggest win here. (Does anyone else HATE talking about their own novel, or is that just me?)
A Community Where I Feel Seen
LegendFiction is a community of indie authors that I recently joined. Their mission is to make writing fun and help authors write and publish their dream novels. I’ve found a wonderful sense of community there. The atmosphere is respectful and positive, which I deeply appreciate. Most importantly, it’s a place where I’m surrounded by fellow creatives. I haven’t felt this “seen” since watching the anime adaptation of A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace.
If you’re an author who’s interested in checking it out and possibly joining, you can learn more at LegendFiction.com.
